Craft Room Organization - Fabric Storage

If you're anything like me, you have an entirely too large fabric collection. Even though I rarely sew, I can't miss out on pretty fabric. I guess I figure that I'd rather add a random fabric to my collection than start a project and realize that I didn't buy it. Once you start loading up on the fabric, it's about time you get it organized... but how?

I store my fabric in drop-front storage boxes on a shelf in my craft-room closet. This was in no way my idea, the fabulous Chip Cordelli was brilliant and it's been the best fabric storage for my space.

While it's the perfect solution for me, I realize it might not be the most practical or appealing solution for everyone. One quick search on the web will yield tons of results and I promise that you'll be inspired.

5 Fab Finds - Paper Source

I've been smitten with Paper Source for awhile now. All of the stationery for our wedding was purchased there, it's the home to my favorite wrapping paper assortment, and their catalog always makes my heart skip a beat. If you haven't actually purchased anything, I would highly suggest that you take the plunge. This isn't a sponsored post by any means so it's not like I have some sneaky ulterior motive for saying that, I just actually think they are one of the best shops online. You might think that they only have paper products and while theirs are definitely the best, you'd be wrong!

Today's Five Fab Finds compilation is about the NON-paper goods you can get for none other than you!

Lunch Note Printables for the Kiddos

Today I'm sharing a little something that pairs some of your babies' favorite stories with words of love and motivation from you. This post was originally shared at Sumo's Sweet Stuff earlier this month, but maybe you missed it. Fear not for the literary lunch notes are here!

Insta Replay Monday #22

Monday. Oh woe is me. Haha, just kidding... I guess. Nah! We had a really wonderful week to be quite honest. It seemed to fly by and I'm definitely not complaining. Some of my favorite moments:

Finishing the aisle runner for my brother-in-law and his bride-to-be
Donuts at work (it's the little things, right?)
Flowers delivered at work from the Mr.
Lots of snuggle time with both of our little fur babies
Dinner and drinks at our favorite watering hole
An incredible shopping trip with the Mr. :)
Creating the wedding invites for my bestie's wedding

Check in later this week to see what I have up my sleeve! See you soon :)

Toms Sunglasses Pouch

I have a slight obsession with my Ray Ban Wayfarers. Over the summer my super wonderful husband bought me this matte blue pair and I treasure them. He also bought me my first pair of Toms, too! I'm a bit too smitten with that brand altogether; I'd buy every pair if I was allowed. This project combines both of those lovelies into one single accessory - a lined canvas pouch for your sunglasses.

Lace and Fringe Square Scarf

Have you ever been suckered into buying those cheap "pashmina" scarves at the craft store (or any store for that matter)? No? Just me? Shucks. Well I picked one up the other week because they were on super sale for $2! Despite the fact that Spring is supposed to be right around the corner, it's been cold as heck here so I grabbed a nude colored one. I had the intention of making this scarf but alas, I couldn't find black lace in the correct width. I did have a four inch wide lace piece in my stash so instead, I made this lace and fringe square scarf.

Springtime Mason Jar Photo Holder

I recently took part in the Martha Stewart Glass Painting Program and had a blast creating an assortment of things. You see, Plaid Crafts has these great new Martha Stewart paintable clings that pair perfectly with their liquid fill glass paint. The clings are awesome simply because they are repositionable so you can change out your decor season after season, year after year. Since Spring is right around the corner (or so says Mr. Punxsutawney Phil), I used the Martha Stewart Crafts Butterfly and Blossoms clings and a few different shades of blue and green paint to create a new decor piece -- a Springtime Mason Jar Photo Holder.

Isn't it kind of the best thing ever? That might be a slight exaggeration, but then again, I'd have to agree that it's slightly more than just plain awesome. Do you remember that picture of craft supplies that I shared on Instagram about two weeks ago? Well, this is one of the projects I used with those babies!

Insta Replay Monday #21

As always, I'm sad to see that the weekend is already over. I really wish I didn't live for those two days each week but it's my reality. Despite being pretty sick this week, I'm recovering quite nicely and had a lovely couple of days with the Mr.

  • I got a haircut last Monday -- went darker, shorter and got way more bangs
  • While I was still violently ill, I went to the greenhouse to enjoy the humidity and all of the life (This was heaven, considering it hurt like hell to breathe in 20 degree air, oh and everything is dead dead dead outside, too.)
  • The Mr. and I had a date on Saturday at Benihana and boy oh boy, we'll definitely be going back there again. I had never been to a hibachi before and it was awesome (and super delicious, too!)
  • He's been playing guitar again and that's how we concluded our perfect Saturday night date. It was the best.

I did a few Spring projects on Sunday and can't wait to share them in the next couple of weeks. So, again I ask, how was your weekend?

Woodland Spoons

I made these little babies over the weekend and they are sort of my favorite. Decorated cooking tools are always so eye catching to me but it's not like you can just paint onto something that will be in regular contact with food so what can you do? If it's wood, you can carve or burn it in. Since I have no idea how to whittle wood, I went with the latter.

Cinnamon Roll Muffins

Who doesn't enjoy a super yummy breakfast? I know I do. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! It might be because I only seem to have a real breakfast over the weekend. When that happens, it usually involves the Mr. taking me to our favorite diner for two eggs over easy, rye toast, extra crispy bacon, a side of two sausages (to share), and homefries boxed and ready to go for Quinn. Every once in awhile I crave something sweet and one such thing is these cinnamon roll muffins. Enjoy!

Happy V-Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! Did you start your day off right with a special breakfast or a big floral arrangement at the door? Or maybe you're spoiling yourself with a full box of chocolates? However you choose to celebrate, I hope it's great!

As much as I love LOVE, I'm a little cranky today. I'm home sick; this is the first time in 3 years that I've called out of work, so you know I'm really not feeling well. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to spending some time with the Mr. when he gets home tonight, sniffles, fever, raspy voice, and all.

I hope you have a wonderful V-Day and just know that I'm sending a little love your way from the City of Brotherly Love! xo

Paper Flower Gift Topper Tutorial

There are a ton of crepe paper flower tutorials out there, that I know. Unfortunately, all of them seem to be for super amazing realistic flowers. Sure that is generally what you want, but a flower on a stem is not necessarily the best gift topper out there. I wanted something classy and fun to put on top of the bridal shower gift to my sister-in-law and a big floofy flower was just what the doctor ordered.

Crepe Paper Flower Tutorial from Spool and Spoon -- perfect alternative to a bow!

The materials were less than $3 (and with that, you could make SEVERAL large flowers) and the whole process took less than 15 minutes. Let's get started!

Insta Replay Monday #20

I saw this picture yesterday afternoon and boy oh boy does it ring true, especially for Sundays. But alas, today is Monday and I could have really used an extended weekend. It was quite refreshing afterall:

  • I got to visit and babysit my three favorite little muchachos on Friday night
  • We survived snowstorm Nemo
  • My soon-to-be sister-in-law's surprise bridal shower was on Saturday afternoon
  • The Mr. and I went out for drinks and dinner at one of our go-to watering holes
  • We had a spelling bee on Saturday night and a crafting fest on Sunday morning
  • My bestie picked out the shoes for us for girls in her wedding

And now, I'm simply counting down the days until next weekend and Valentine's Day of course.

What you have to look forward to this week:
Crepe Paper Flower Tutorial
Wood-Burned Spoons
Sticky Bun Muffins

Until tomorrow, everyone!

Love is in the Stars Tutorial

Yesterday I shared individual prints for each of the twelve astrological constellations and I hope you enjoyed them. While I'm sure they have a ton of random decor uses on their own, I created a sweet printable as an easy and personalized Valentine's Day gift for the Mr.

Sure, this could be done in my beloved PhotoShop but it can be created quite simply by any of the free programs out there. If you want to create your own but don't have fancy photo editing software, don't you worry. Below is a step-by-step tutorial to put yours together in practically no time at all.

Astrological Constellation Printables

Astrological Constellation Printables from Spool and Spoon (www.spoolandspoonblog.com)

Funny story behind this one. Well, maybe not so funny as it is one that shows how blonde I can be sometimes. The Mr. really has a thing for astronomy and by that, I mean he's a big ole nerd (haha). Yeah, well, this girl wanted to do something special for him and thought that I could make some a cute astronomical themed piece of art. I set out and created these little prints. Well... it turns out that astronomy is not at all the same thing as astrology... WHOOPS. Nevertheless, they turned out super cute so I'm happy to share them with you!

If All Else Fails, Coffee {printable}

Coffee lovers rejoice! I know it's not exactly healthy to have 20+ ounces per day, but I really can't help myself. Having a Keurig at home doesn't make resisting my cravings any easier. My day does not begin until I've filled my gigantic soup mug with 18oz of Breakfast Blend, two Splenda packets, and a healthy helping of French vanilla creamer. Throughout the day, I have anywhere between 1-3 more cups depending on my stress level. And then, the moment that I get home from work, I make a steaming cup of Starbuck's Veranda Blonde Roast because I'm exhausted and in need of a serious pick me up.

There is no way that I'm the only one like this... RIGHT?! I designed this simple little print for the rest of you coffee addicts out there.

If All Else Fails, Coffee -- Printable by www.spoolandspoonblog.com

Yep. If all else fails, coffee. Could it be any truer than that? This would be great in a breakfast nook, home office, or the kitchen. I painted the original with super strong leftover coffee and then added the text. I had painted another copy in its entirety, but accidentally smudged the A in "all" which was completely discouraging since it's not the easiest thing to paint text. Because of the white background, you can crop it into a variety of sizes once printed on one 8.5x11" sheet of paper.

This should go without saying, but this print is for PERSONAL USE ONLY and is not to be used for profit. Always be sure to give credit where credit is due. Thanks a bunch and enjoy!

Insta Replay Monday #19

Did you pig out yesterday? We watched the game but stayed at home with a bottle of champagne and pint of ice cream each (frozen Greek yogurt, for me!) It was the perfect way to end the weekend considering I had one of the most stressful weeks in awhile. Oh, and we won part of the football pool too so that was nice! I did my best to stay pretty active on Instagram this week so there are a ton of fun images for you to check out today. If you aren't already, you should definitely start following along because I did two "sneak peeks" this week that you missed otherwise. Boohoo!

Highlights from the past week included:
  • Receiving the Save the Date for my bestie's wedding (yes, the one where I'll be Maid of Honor!)
  • Getting back on Weight Watchers
  • Receiving a package full of Martha Stewart goodies from Plaid Crafts
  • (not pictured) The Mr. NEVER has a sweet tooth, and I mean never ever, let alone a craving for ice cream. Still, this weekend he took me out twice for my favorite treat! Yum num num. That was quite possibly the brightest part of the past two days, haha. Wait, do you think he might be pregnant? Tee hee.
  • Oh, and don't you just love the face that I captured Quinn Bear is making?? I was crying laughing so hard when I saw that outtake.

If you caught it on Facebook last night, you saw that this Thursday will be the first week that I write as a contributor at Sumo's Sweet Stuff. Seeing as I will be doing printables, I thought it was fitting to do only printables this week at Spool and Spoon as well. There are some really cute ones coming this week that you won't want to miss so check back soon!

Pick Your Plum Grab Box Reveal {Video}

I want to come right out and say it, this is in no means a paid post, it's not even remotely sponsored. I'm just sharing what I received in my latest grab box and expressing my genuine love towards Pick Your Plum.

Is anyone else out there completely obsessed with Pick Your Plum? It's practically clockwork for me, at 9:00AM Eastern I drop everything I do (shhhh, please don't tell my boss) and jump on PYP to see what kind of deal they have for the day. Sometimes I have enough self control to resist but most of the time I don't (shhh, please don't tell the Mr.!) They sell everything ranging from cardigans to monogrammed cutting boards to pretty cabochons to washi tape and oh so much more. Every once in awhile they offer a super amazing SURPRISE deal with a big ole grab box for a discounted flat rate. The only problem with these is that they sell out super quickly and I somehow miss it each time. I planned ahead last weekend and set my alarm -- I literally jumped out mid-shower to run down to my laptop to place my order. You might think that was crazy... until you see all of the amazing goodies I scored for next to nothing!

I was crazy with anticipation to see what would be included in my box and I figured I couldn't be the only one. As soon as I opened it I knew that I wanted to share the goodness with all of you. Rather than a couple of pictures, check out my very first video!

I'm slightly embarrassed because I rambled a couple of times and then talked incredibly fast at other times. That's me in real life though so at least now you know me better. Don't mind me though, look at all of those awesome goodies!
Have you ever purchased anything from Pick Your Plum? Or maybe you swear by another site?
