Hand Stamped Seed Sack Tutorial

I have always been a big fan of Earth Day so I was delighted to create a kid-friendly and planet-friendly project for Week 4 at So You Think You're Crafty. We don't have kids so coming up with a Kids Can Do project was not the easiest task for me. Out of desperation, I thought back to what I loved as a little girl and the things that my little hands could do. I have the fondest memories of gardening with my grandmother, just sprinkling seeds all willy-nilly, and that became my inspiration. I decided to make some mix and match foam and woodblock stamps to create patterned seed sacks that are perfect for Spring and Earth Day celebrations. Earth Day may be in the past but tomorrow is May Day -- the epitome of Springtime festivals!

To make your own set of hand stamped seed sacks you only need a few supplies: a foam sheet, wood blocks, linen bags, double-sided tape, paint/ink pads, and scissors.

Insta Replay Monday #31

I can't believe how hard Mondays can be. I have seriously enjoyed the past couple weekends to the absolute max. It seems as though every moment has been jam packed with smiles and laughter. I think that's why it's so hard to wake up and realize that I have to make it through five more days all over again haha.

Tropical Delight Macadamia Nut Cookies

I haven't shared a recipe in what feels like forever. This cookie recipe is sure to please and is one of the easiest to throw together. These Tropical Delight Macadamia Nut Cookies combines one of my fave things - toasted coconut, and one of the Mr.'s - macadamia nut cookies.

And guess what -- all you need are a few ingredients from the bulk food aisle and a Betty Crocker White Chip Macadamia Nut Cookie Mix.

Insta Replay Monday #30

Hey everyone! Despite the anguish and terror inflicted on the USA last week, this weekend was pleasant and exciting. I'm currently in a great mood -- if you saw yesterday's post you know that I had a half day on Friday. You'd be surprised about how good it can feel to have some free time to yourself. Also, I pulled out on top at So You Think You're Crafty this past week so my tutorial for the stamped seed sacks will first appear there later this week. I'm stoked for this week's upcycle project though -- go vote when you have a chance! Please!

Some memorable moments:
  • I spent 20 minutes agonizing over which white paint to buy... we started our kitchen makeover!
  • Impromptu dinner date with the Mr. on Friday night
  • My fave pregnant lady turned 30 this weekend
  • Brunch with my bestie on Sunday morning
  • The Mr. took me to visit with some pups at a rescue's Meet and Greet
  • Speaking of rescues -- I donated a set of handmade coasters for Quinn's rescue to auction on FB -- check them out through 4/26!
And now -- On to the Insta Replay!

Spring Giveaway - Treat. Yo. Self.

On Friday, I did something so out of character, so unthinkable, so completely mind-boggling... I took a half day from work! Say what?! There was no reason, no appointment, nothing that absolutely needed to be done. I desperately needed a breather and decided to give myself just that. So what did I enjoy that afternoon? A little shopping, the biggest frappuccino I have ever laid eyes on, and a trendy springtime manicure.

That's when the idea popped into my head... Why not treat one of you to the same little luxuries? So I present to you, in the words of Tom and Donna, the Treat. Yo. Self. giveaway!

Hello Box Reveal

A couple months ago, I ran across the Hello Box initiative going on at Pink on the Cheek. The purpose of the Hello Box is not just to get a gift, it's to gain a friend. You spend the month getting to know a blogger that you are randomly paired with. You chit chat, you support one another's blogs, and hopefully, you become friends.

I was super lucky to get paired up with quite the lady: Lacey from Charm & Sass. You may have noticed her button in my sidebar for the past couple of weeks. She's sort of a supermom, lifestyle blogger, and wife extraordinaire all wound up into one. She sent me a hugeee package of fantastic goodies which was exactly what I needed after a rough couple weeks at the office. Check it out!

She spoiled me!

"There's GNOME Place Like Home" Wreath

I specifically made the Mini Felt Gnomes with a Spring wreath in mind... would you believe that I still had my Framed Valentine's Day Wreath on the front door?! I love me some big ole wreathes. What can I say? I like big wreaths and I cannot lie; you other bloggers can't deny. Tee hee. Seriously though, one of the things that makes no sense to me are "wreaths" that are the size of candle rings. If you are going to take the time to put something pretty on your door, you might as well be able to see it from the street without binoculars. The new wreath is just what we needed to greet us everyday... afterall, there really is gnome place like home!

DIY Coupon Organizer with Tabbed Dividers

I wanted to take a moment before the tutorial to thank you all again. It means so much to me for you to visit and vote weekly at So You Think You're Crafty (even though you don't know which project mine). Last week's "scraptastic" Coupon Organizer wasn't exactly a winner, as it came in 3rd place, but I'm really happy with the end result. So, how about a tutorial?

This DIY Coupon Organizer was created with a couple fabric scraps and spare cardstock. I'm pretty sure that most of us have those things lying around. Let's get crafting, shall we?

Insta Replay Monday #29

Happy Monday! How was your weekend?

We did a whole bunch of nothing. Actually, that's a lie... we were quite productive and relaxed all in one. Lots of crafting, friends, gardening, and food. Nice, right? I also spent a couple hours working on next week's SYTYC project... let's hope that I make it through this week's round! I'd love if you stopped by today and voted for your favorite "Kids Can Do" projects! By the way, did you guess that the Scraptastic Coupon Organizer was mine last week? Tomorrow I'll share a tutorial so you can make your own!

Spring Mantle Reveal

Maybe you recall seeing some sneak peeks of our newly redecorated mantle in my Instagram feed or on this week's Insta Replay Monday

I'm so excited that it is finally done. I wish I had some before pictures, but I didn't plan ahead and took all of our old stuff down as soon as the Mr. gave me the green light. If you're really curious as to what was up there before, think ships and globes... BLEH -- blame the Mr.! That's not our style at all, we're much more green than that. When I finally got the go ahead to restyle everything, I knew I would be bringing the outdoors in.

Good morning, ladies! Guess what? Hannah from Young and Crafty is a dear and is letting me visit.I'm sharing a tutorial for one of my favorite projects. Come on over and see which one made the cut! While you're there, take a look at some of the creative goodness that girl dreams up. (Pst! She's the reason I auditioned for So You Think You're Crafty!)

Anthro Knock-Off: Stacking Wood Trays

I have been coveting these wood trays from Anthropologie for the last 6 months but their steep price tag put the brakes on any intent I might have had to buy them. I mean, $128 for 3 wooden desk trays?! No thank you. Thankfully the knock-off challenge at SYTYC came bright and early this season so I finally had the motivation to make a set for myself.

They are the perfect addition to my newly organized office console, dontcha think? I started with some plain wooden trays for $7.99 a piece and added some dividers. After painting on the wording, I added a brass card holder/pull to each tray and called it a day. I guess you want better instructions than that? Check out the step by step below!

Insta Replay Monday #28

Hello everyone! This has been one of the most beautiful, albeit fastest, weekends we have had this year. The sun was out from sunrise til sunset and I cannot come up with a single complaint. I didn't accomplish all that I had intended, but again, it was just too nice to stay inside.

DIY Faux Enamel Earrings

I have finally begun to work through the odds and ends in my Pick Your Plum grab box! I got a couple baggies of jewelry findings and decided to make a deceptively simple pair of faux enamel earrings.

For this project you will need: filigree medallions, earring hooks, and Martha Stewart liquid fill glass paint. I had a ton of the glass paint leftover from my Mason Jar Photo Frame so I was glad to use some in an unexpected way.

A Pocketful of Posies Pillow

Thanks to all of you who voted at So You Think You're Crafty last week, I got second place! Week two is in full force right now so stop by and vote for your favorites! You might not know this about the competition, but whoever wins each round gives a tutorial of their project at SYTYC. Since I was not number one last week, I get to share my tutorial here at Spool and Spoon instead!

We are having one long winter over here so I was really excited to hear that the Week 1 theme was Spring. The competitors are supposed to interpret the theme in whatever way we want so I combined the florals, bright colored decor, and stash busting spring cleaning all into one. From a handful of rolled flowers, some gorgeous grey chambray and a bit of stuffing blossomed this "Pocketful of Posies" pillow.

Insta Replay Monday #27

Happy April Fool's Day! I hope you had a wonderful holiday yesterday. Today isn't much of a holiday but it is my sweet little Aubergine's third birthday. Maybe you're ten times luckier than me and get to stay home an extra day? If so, do you feel me glaring through your screen? I'm going to make this update quick because I'm a busy bee this morning and have to work work work.
