Couples Costume - Wayne's World: Wayne & Garth

Maybe it's because I'm getting older or maybe it's because I'm nearly full-term, but I had no desire to dress in a skimpy costume this year. Joe and I decided to go retro again this year and I think we nailed it.

I mean, what's better than an on-point Wayne and a very pregnant Garth? While this wasn't entirely 'last minute' for us as we did it for our best friend's annual Halloween party last weekend, it's a great costume to throw together with items already in your closet if you haven't been able to plan ahead.

To recreate Wayne's look, you'll need:
The basics for your outfit are a plain black tshirt, distressed jeans, and black chuck taylors. Top off your look with a Wayne's World cap (my crafty husband actually DIYed his own!) and endorse your favorite beverage. I bought the plain black cap at Goodwill, the black tee at Target in the undershirt section, and Joe went through his closet and found a pair of baggy jeans (circa 2002) and cut those bad boys up.

To recreate Garth's look, you'll need:
The essentials for this look are a grungy blue plaid shirt, a white band tee, distressed denim, chucks, and a pair of thick rimmed black eyeglasses. To really up the ante, add a couple drumsticks and dry shampoo to tease the heck out of your hair. The converse were already in my wardrobe as were the jeans but I had to search out a flannel shirt at Goodwill and picked up a white Rolling Stones tee at Target (needed a shirt that would actually fit over my bump. While the glasses pictured above are Raybans, the ones I was wearing are my new prescription glasses (Coach) that happened to work perfectly.

WAYNE'S WORLD. WAYNE'S WORLD. PARTY TIME! EXCELLENT!

Fall Fun List - A Bucket List for the Whole Family!

Today is the PERFECT fall day. I went outside to find frost on the car, the sun shining bright, and not a cloud in the sky. It's too bad that it's Monday haha. If you didn't have a chance to stop by Sumo's Sweet Stuff last month to grab the printable I shared, no worries, because I have you covered! If you love the crisp air and smell of fallen leaves as much as I do, this Fall Fun List printable will be right up your alley!

Autumn is my absolute favorite season of all. I know that I'm not the only one. I cannot wait until the Mr. and I have a family to share the this time of year with. There are just so many wonderful things to enjoy indoors and out it's hard to fit it all in. Pumpkin patches. Apple cider. Haunted houses. Seasonal baking. Nature walks. Corn mazes. Hayrides. I feel like I spend the entire year counting down to October... and somehow it's already NOVEMBER. How the heck did that happen?

How about using this little bucket list to keep your season on track?

Trick or Treat!

Happy Halloween, everyone! I'm really looking forward to all of the trick-or-treaters tonight! I'm planning to cut out of the office as early as humanly possible so I don't miss a single cute costume. What are you (or your precious little goblins) dressing up as?

Me? Well, Joe and I were Doug Funnie and Patti Mayonnaise for the annual Halloween party. For work though, I decided to err on the side of tradition and voila!

And with a little extra color... you get this!

I'll get you my pretty. And your little dog, too!

Have a great night everyone! P.S. You know what tomorrow is, right? Time to start thinking about Christmas! Bwahaha.

Fall-o-ween Front Porch Reveal

Yay! We're no longer the eyesore on the block! Our house is officially ready for trick-or-treaters. We decided to take a bit more of an autumnal approach to Halloween decorating this year. I'm calling it Fall-o-ween! A whole lot of FALL with some HALLOWEEN on the side.

Come take a peek!

Día de los Muertos

You may have thought that Halloween was over and you'd be right but today is yet another "morbid" holiday: Día de los Muertos!

As creepy as it might seem with all of the skeletons and what not, it's actually a very special time of year. The day is dedicated to memorializing, remembering, and including the special people in our lives who have passed. Throughout Mexico you'll find altars of all sizes complete with photos, skulls, flowers, art, and gifts to the dead.

Happy Halloween! {printable}

Happy Halloween! Tonight's the night for ghosts, phantoms, and frights. I hope it's creepy, crawly and everything it's supposed to be. My wish to all of you: "eat, drink and be scary!"

Feel free to download your very own copy of this printable image. It might seem premature, but why not prepare for Halloween 2013?!

Our neighborhood has postponed trick-or-treating until Friday night, so what will we be doing instead? We'll spend the night drinking witches' brew and watching only the most horrifying flicks. Sounds like a frightfully good time, dontcha think? Once you've turned off the front porch light, I expect you to do the same. Yes, that's an order. Satisfy your sugar tooth with a few of those candies you stashed and enjoy a glass or two of spiced cider!

Also, just in case you missed some of the other Halloween projects, you can find all of them here.

Honey Boo Boo Costume

I'm sorry for being absent this week. Sometimes, life just gets away from you and you have to spend a few days playing catch up. While I was MIA, I also moonlighted as the one and only Honey Boo Boo at the annual Halloween party (aka Liquor Treat) on Friday night.

Like my costume?
We kinda slacked this year and didn't decide on our costumes until an hour or so before we had to leave. Unfortunately, he didn't let me dress him up as Sugar Bear like I had wanted haha.

You too can make your own costume for Honey Boo Boo or any other Toddlers and Tiaras pageant princess!

Tutorial: Doggie Tutu and Puffy Bow

Once upon a time we welcomed our second "child," Quinn, into our lives. She's adorable and easygoing so I was looking forward to getting her into a Halloween costume this year. Even the neighborhood kids have expressed interest in Quinn getting dressed up... bwahaha.  I thought a simple tutu and Halloween bow would be perfect without being too over the top.

Fabric Candy Corn Treat Bags

Ahhh, October! It's beginning to get cooler and the leaves are starting to change. It's time to deck the halls with cobwebs and skeletons and start singing Monster Mash! This weekend I got around to dressing up some fabric treat bags for our favorite kids. Not only are these adorable, they're also super easy and NO-SEW!  Sweet!

DIY Monochromatic Fabric Pumpkins

I feel like my sewing machine and I have an ":it's complicated" relationship. I go weeks without touching it and then out of nowhere I can't get my hands off of it for hours on end. Is anyone else like that? Well, I made a few things last night while I was feeling inspired and thought I'd share a tutorial for one today: Monochromatic Fabric Pumpkins.

Materials:
  • Fabric scraps
  • Coordinating heavy duty thread (Coats Glace line is perfect for this)
  • Poly fill
  • Twine
  • Ribbon
  • Sewing machine & necessary tools

Halloween Subway Art {Printable}

I'm a bit obsessed with Halloween already. Please don't judge me. I'll be the first one to admit that I rush the holidays. Still, two Halloween projects before the first week of September has come to an end might be a record, even for me. I have too much I want to accomplish before October gets here.

I have to start on the outdoor decorations, figure out costumes for the Mr., Quinn, and I (never again will I attempt to put clothes on Aubrey, haha), decide what fun treat I'll be making for our annual Halloween party, pick what candy we'll be handing out to the trick-or-treaters, and make little gifts for our favorite kids. Since it's still really hot and humid out, it's hard to focus on those things though. Instead, I put all of my inspiration to good use in a fun subway art printable.

Halloween Luminaries

It's September! Guess what that means? The Autumn holidays are upon us. Yay! I am so flipping excited about the next few months. I couldn't help but to get a Halloween project out of the way already.

These would look spooktacular clustered on your dining room table. They cast a fun shadow when lit and look eerie even when they are no flames inside. The best part is that they are completely customizable... you could do different shapes, colors, or even words! Just think -- how fantastic would these look spelling out Happy Halloween across your mantle?? The possibilities are endless!
