Does anyone feel like Christmas is right around the corner? I guess I better press fast forward on the rest of The 25 Projects of Christmas. Seeing as decorating the Christmas Tree is probably one of my most favorite aspects of the season, I wanted to share another ornament tutorial - the Spool and Sisal Tree.
These ornaments are easily finished in about 10 minutes flat so read on to learn how to take your ordinary bottle brush trees from ho-hum to ho-ho.
mini sisal trees (aka bottle brush craft trees)
wooden spools
hot glue & gun
double-sided tape
twine
two buttons
metallic bakers twine
tacky glue
fine glitter

- Twist off the bast of the tree. Yep, it's that easy to remove it.
- If necessary, use wire cutters to cut down the trunk to less than the length of the spool.
- Apply a circle of hot glue around the top of the spool
- Insert the wire trunk through the whole in the spool until the sisal attaches to the hot glue
- Stick a piece of double-sided tape around the spool
- Wrap a small length of twine around the spool, taking special care to ensure that the double-sided tape holds it down
- Apply a small dab of tacky glue to the ends to permanently adhere the twine down
- Spread a light coat of tacky glue onto the outside edges of the tree and sprinkle with glitter
- Allow the glue to dry
- Tie a looped knot in some bakers twine (will be the hanger)
- Flatten the top of the tree with pliers
- Hot glue one of the buttons to the top of the tree and sandwich the knotted twine between two buttons with more hot glue.
Now this special tree is ready to adorn your next gift or to be hung from your Christmas tree!
What's nice is that they don't even have to be hung. I think they look adorbs and super sparkly all alone and would definitely add a certain something to your winter wonderland vignettes.
Somehow, I never saw these sisal trees until this year and I most definitely prefer the white ones over the green ones. What about you?
